Urutan kata yang normal digunakan dalam pertanyaan yang dilaporkan (reported question), yaitu subjek diletakkan sebelum kata kerja dan tidak harus menggunakan do atau did:

Yes/No Question

Jenis pertanyaan ini dilaporkan menggunakan formula ask + if/whether + klausa:

"Have you been to Bristol before?"	She asked if I had been to Bristol before.

Question Word

Jenis pertanyaan ini dilaporkan menggunakan formula ask (atau kata kerja lain yang mirip dengan ask) + question word + klausa. Question word atau kata pertanyaan meliputi what, where, when, who, why, dan how. Klausa merupakan pertanyaan dengan urutan kata normal dan perubahan tense yang diperlukan.
